Shopify accounting and tax planning

Know the Shopify profit. Plan the corporate tax and owner pay.

Monthly accounting and year-round tax planning for incorporated Canadian Shopify owners. Connect store sales, payment processors, refunds, inventory, advertising, corporate tax, and owner decisions in one reporting file.

Who this is for

When your records need a more connected close

Your store has inventory, several payment flows, subscriptions or gift cards, advertising spend, or another marketplace. The payout dashboard and bank balance no longer explain your revenue, margin, or available cash.

Store and payment reconciliation

Tie Shopify sales and refunds to Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe, and other processors in use. Reconcile fees, chargebacks, clearing balances, and deposits without double-counting orders.

Gift cards and sales timing

Separate gift cards, store credit, preorders, and subscriptions where applicable. Keep cash receipts, revenue timing, refund adjustments, and tax balances connected to the supporting reports.

Inventory and operating costs

Connect product costs, freight, duties, fulfillment, and inventory cut-offs to the monthly close so profit and cash planning begin with credible figures.

Corporate and owner tax planning

Estimate corporate tax and instalments, review owner withdrawals, and plan salary or dividend decisions using current results. GST/HST preparation and filing are included when required.

What you receive

A defined accounting scope

Accounting Foundation covers the monthly close, settlements, financial statements, and GST/HST preparation and filing when required. Owner Planning adds tax estimates, instalment tracking, owner compensation planning, and scheduled reviews. Strategic Advisory adds forecasts and scenario work.

Additional work

Fees follow the actual file

Corporate and personal income-tax returns, payroll, provincial filings, and historical cleanup are separately priced. Foreign tax and legal advice is provided by qualified local professionals under a separately agreed scope.

Pricing is private. A fixed-fee proposal follows the review if there is a fit.

A clear first step

Begin with a fit conversation

Tell us what is changing in the business and where the tax or accounting uncertainty sits. No records or platform credentials are needed for the first inquiry.

Initial conversation
We respond within one business day to confirm whether the situation fits the practice. No records are required for the first conversation.
Paid review, when useful
After fit is confirmed, a fixed-fee E-commerce Owner Tax and Accounting Review can examine the reliability of the books, corporate tax outlook, owner transactions, sales-tax balances, inventory support, and decisions requiring action.
Records and access
Records are shared through a secure client portal. Read-only access is requested where available; do not send passwords or financial documents through the inquiry form.
Written outcome
The paid review produces written findings, priority actions, and a proposed ongoing scope when recurring support would be useful.

The review does not include bookkeeping repairs, filed returns, legal advice, foreign tax opinions, or an audit unless those services are expressly included in a separate engagement.

Discuss your tax and accounting position

Common questions

Before you request a review

Can you connect Shopify and Amazon in the same books?

Yes. The scope covers the active channels and processors, with reconciliation between orders, settlements, and bank deposits. Channels are considered together when reviewing inventory and tax balances.

Does Shopify handle all my tax filings?

Checkout tax settings and marketplace tax reporting do not replace a review of your own registration and filing position. We review the records and include GST/HST preparation and filing when required.

What accounting software do you support?

Both Xero and QuickBooks Online. The paid E-commerce Owner Tax and Accounting Review considers the current file, payment flows, tax position, and reporting needs before an ongoing scope is proposed.
